A huge, fast-moving and rapidly growing wildfire in northern California has forced more than 4,000 people to evacuate as firefighters battle gusty winds and perilously dry conditions, authorities said Friday. Long unfinished East LA mural honoring veterans is completed and celebrated
The East Los Angeles community celebrated the unveiling of a mural honoring veterans at Ruben F. Salazar Park that had been unfinished for nearly 15 years. Seniors who frequented the community room at the park raised funds from 2006 to 2009 for a mural honoring local military service men and women. They collected photographs from the community of veterans and their families and with funds raised, hired artist Richard Haro to create the "Among the Valiant" mural. Beverly Hills issues statement on power outages
The city of Beverly Hills issued a statement on July 26 after recent power outages in the city. “This week, portions of Beverly Hills once again experienced unacceptable power outages,” the statement read. “Electricity to Beverly Hills is supplied through Southern California Edison. SCE is not owned, operated or in any way controlled by the city of Beverly Hills. Mayor Lester Friedman and members of the Beverly Hills City Council have communicated their immense frustration and urgent concerns to SCE regarding the increasingly frequent power outages. Under Beverly Hills’ agreement with SCE, the utility is obligated to provide residents and businesses with reliable power, and the city expects SCE to live up to its agreement and address its failing infrastructure in affected areas of the city.”
