Emmy Nominated series X-Men ’97 ‘s second season is almost here , but Creator Beau DeMayo claims he will not be credited.

X-Men ’97 Creator Beau DeMayo was fired five months ago before the release of 97 ‘s season two, and he claims he completed the season and will not be credited for it. The firing happened in March 2024, and until today, the reasons behind the creator’s removal have been unknown. DeMayo took to social media to claim the reasoning behind the firing. It relates to a specific fan art he posted featuring himself as X-Men mutant Cyclops in celebration of Pride Month. The fan art is posted below, as seen on Beau DeMayo’s X (formerly Twitter) account.

DeMayo’s thread continues with, “On June 13, #Marvel sent a letter notifying me that they’d stripped my Season 2 credits due to the post. Sadly, this is the latest in a troubling pattern I suffered through while working on #XMen97 and #Blade,” referring to the image as the straw that broke the camel’s back on his inclusion in the show’s credits. Marvel would respond via a spokesperson soon after to THR , saying “Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation,” with ““Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately, and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.”

Before the abrupt exit, DeMayo was responsible for writing seasons one and two of the award-nominated X-Men ’97 animated series, and controversy arose when Marvel stripped the creator of his credits for season two. Beau DeMayo has since responded, saying more is sure to come: “This is their Disney-Marvel’s usual playbook. Legal letters and other items are needed to prove their long-standing pattern. It’s about finding a safe outlet. Thanks for your faith and patience.”

Marvel has not responded further yet, but the alleged removal of credits from DeMayo stems from a supposed breach of contract between the two parties . The creator’s refusal to stop posting about the show since his removal is cited .
