Crunchyroll announced they will be bringing the KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp- anime film to North American theaters on August 28th.

Otakus of the supernatural and vampirical genre will be pleased with Crunchyroll ‘s announcement this week involving the fan-favourite vamp Koyomi Araragi. The premier anime streamer announced that the KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp- anime film will be screening at select North American theatres exclusively on Wednesday, August 28th, 2024. Tickets are on sale now for audiences in the United States and Canada!

The film will only be available in Japanese with English subtitles. KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp- will be distributed by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Despite this feeling like a re-release, fans will still be blown away by this redone, significantly improved version of the three-film series from director and lead animator Tatsuya Oishi .

KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp- is a three-film anime adaptation comprised of edited footage from the trilogy of films of the same name previously released in 2016 and 2017, featuring animation produced by SHAFT. Written by NISIOISIN, the film takes fans back to the beginning, the origin of the MONOGATARI story. Originally released as three separate movies, the upcoming film installment summarizes the KIZUMONOGATARI trilogy.

The Fantasia International Film Festival 2024 lineup included this stunning North American debut for the film. On July 27, KIZUMONOGATARI -Koyomi Vamp- held its North American premiere at Fantasia as part of the Animation Plus Section, drawing in a large crowd of anime enthusiasts and Monogatari fans eager to experience the latest installment in the beloved series.

CGMagazine’s own Editor-in-chief, Brendan Frye, was able to view the film at the film festival and have a chat with Oishi and producer Tatsuya Ishikawa. “One of the challenges, or aspects of the series, is that it’s pretty hard to reach an international audience. With this movie, Koyomi Vamp , we made an effort to ensure it would reach a wider global audience,” Ishikawa shared. Oishi added, “For the film, I always see myself as needing to try something new, to challenge myself. So, compared to the original TV series, Bakemonogatari , I felt that I needed to create something different for this movie.”

And if fans want to experience these new changes and re-‘vamped’ version of the KIZUMONOGATARI films, they can now. Oishi also noted how he and his staff tried to make this film more accessible to audiences who may only see this as a standalone film, regardless of it being one part of a film series and overarching series. Here is the synopsis for the film, as provided by Crunchyroll:

Her legs and arms have been cruelly torn apart, and her extravagant dress is soaked in red; she’s a monster who finds herself in a tragic state, lying in a pool of her own blood.
