Concord Will Be Taken Offline on Sept 6, Devs to “Explore Options” & Offer Refunds

In what could be referred to as a disappointing release, Firewalk Studio’s Concord will be taken offline on September 6 and Sony will “explore options.”

Sony has officially announced on their PlayStation Blog today that they will be taking their latest FPS hero shooter from Firewalk Studios, Concord , offline on September 6. The post has been penned by Firewalk Studios’ Game Director, Ryan Ellis, and according to him, the decision was made by “listening closely” to fan feedback regarding the title. However, other metrics (mainly sales) could also be a culprit in the decision to remove the game from their marketplace and place the servers offline. The blog post has also mentioned that they will be giving fans who have purchased the title a full refund.

While Concord has been released to very middling scores (receiving a 62% on Metacritic ), CGMagazine’s review gave the title a 6.5 and says “ Concord is a game that’s fun for a little while but the longer I played, the more I wanted to play something else” including “it’ll likely end up as yet another Hero Shooter that people forget about in a month.” The PlayStation blog post notably doesn’t say that this is the end for the FPS title, but rather that they “have decided to take the game offline beginning September 6, 2024, and explore options, including those that will better reach our players.”

While the title will be pulled offline, PlayStation has announced that they will issue refunds for those who have purchased the title in full. If fans have purchased the game from the PS Store or PS Direct, they will receive refunds to their original form of payment, but other digital storefront buyers will also be refunded easily without issue (at least where Steam and the Epic Games Store is concerned).

Fans should note that once they receive a refund they will no longer have access to Concord , similar to the disastrous launch of the Steam title, The Day Before back in December 2023 . While the future does look bleak for the title, PlayStation and Firewalk Studios have stopped short of saying the title will be removed completely as they explore future options.
