Behaviour Interactive has acquired the developers responsible for the Darkest Dungeon series, Red Hook Studios in a new move after Project T’s cancellation.

Dead by Daylight developers Behaviour Interactive has announced today that they’ve acquired the developers behind Darkest Dungeon and its sequel, Red Hook Studios. The news comes straight from the developer’s X (formerly Twitter) account in a post applauding their new acquisition. The post can be seen below.

What’s notable is the fact that Behaviour Interactive has announced that they will have a ‘hands-off’ approach to Red Hook Studios’ development cycle, stating that although Red Hook will be under the Behaviour umbrella, they will remain “fully independent”. All 29 members from the Red Hook Studios dev team have been kept on through the acquisition.

This news comes within a week of Behaviour Interactive announcing the cancellation of Project T , a spin-off set in the Dead by Daylight universe . As a result of the cancellation of Project T , the parent Midwinter Entertainment has also been shuttered. Behaviour has issued a statement that says the studio closure was made after a “diligent risk assessment” on the project was performed, and “in no way reflects the talent of the team.” All members of Midwinter were offered positions to stay on with Behaviour Interactive after the studio’s closure.

Both development studios appear to be happy with the decision, as Behaviour CEO and co-founder Rémi Racine said “Earlier this year, we established an ambitious goal for our future as a publisher – to make Behaviour synonymous with horror, and surround Dead by Daylight with a library of similarly exceptional horror games. Our acquisition of Red Hook is another emphatic step towards this objective, with more to come” in a statement to GamesIndustry .

Red Hook co-founder Chris Bourassa followed with “Behaviour’s support will help us pursue our vision for Red Hook’s future, and focus fully on transforming Darkest Dungeon into an absolute juggernaut of the dark fantasy genre.”
