At no extra cost, both Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus are giving fans another reason to be frightened with free horror offerings in October.

For the spooky season, many companies try to get ahead of the curve by launching incentives to get fans into the season with hold-your-breath horror injecting fear into the entire month. For 2024, Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus have offerings that will turn subscribers pale in an attempt to drag more bodies into the horrific on display, with Xbox Game Pass offering two free films and PlayStation Plus giving fans access to one of their biggest franchises for the month of October.

Other horror offerings are also launching this month (albeit not free with a service) on PlayStation Plus with Konami’s already incredibly well-received Silent Hill 2 Remake , which CGMagazine’s review says, “This is Silent Hill 2, as you remember it, but better in nearly every way” which launches October 8th, and Until Dawn Enhanced Edition launching today. No matter the platform, Halloween is on the menu.

Xbox Game Pass Free Horror Films

John Carpenter’s 2005 film, The Devil’s Rejects, is first on the menu. Xbox Game Pass asks fans to hit the dashboard and claim the film under the Game Pass Perks selection on the main menu. By clicking ‘claim’ fans can watch the 2005 cult classic film from beginning to end at no extra charge. The same goes for the first entry in the massive Saw horror franchise, named Saw , denoting it as the first film. Saw sees survivors confronted with their sins, and the titular killer, Jigsaw, demands they succeed in the game (filled with bloodthirsty traps) or die trying. Both films can be claimed with an Xbox Game Pass subscription.

PlayStation Plus has a similar stance, horror should be gifted during October. The first entry in The Last of Us series of games remade for the PS5, The Last of Us Part I has been introduced to the PlayStation Plus catalogue just in time for the Halloween month. Featuring a fungal outbreak akin to the horrors of Racoon City, Joel and Ellie attempt to survive this new zombie-like plague with the help of each other in a bleak future set 20 years after the start of the outbreak. PlayStation Plus subscribers can dive right into this dystopian world for free.

Both horror offerings can be claimed free of an extra charge as early as today, for fans to get into the Halloween spirit. Fans still wanting more can also check out the best Horror offerings on Netflix here .
