Apex Legends Spills Details On How Their Loot Boxes Work

In a blog post published on Tuesday, Respawn Entertainment shared all the details on how Apex Legends loot boxes work, providing further insight into their mechanics.

Today, Respawn Entertainment took to the Apex Legends Blog to discuss how their ‘Apex Packs’ function, including the drop rates of rarer items and provided everything fans need to know about the loot boxes before purchasing. This move comes in response to South Korean regulations that went into effect this year. Notably, according to WNHub , as of August 2024, 266 games have been found in violation of the new regulation, with 60 percent of those games being foreign to South Korea (Respawn is based in the US). The regulations began in March 2024, and Respawn Entertainment’s blog post on Apex Legends loot boxes appears to align with these recently introduced requirements.

First and foremost, Respawn Entertainment made it clear that they “have not adjusted our rarity drop rates” but are now providing more detailed information about cosmetic item drop rates. Fans should note that the published drop rates are not designed to mislead with inflated statistics; they represent the lowest possible drop rates for any Apex Legends player, even those without paid cosmetic items. One key announcement involves the elusive Heirloom Shards, previously reported to drop at a rate of less than 1%. Respawn Entertainment has revealed that their drop rate is just 0.045%, but players are still guaranteed one after opening 500 Apex Packs.

Finally, Apex Legends has revealed that it is now impossible for loot box buyers to receive duplicate items from Apex Packs, as they will never drop an item already in a player’s inventory. It’s important to note that while the contents of Apex Packs haven’t changed, Respawn Entertainment has only disclosed the chances of obtaining a valuable reward, and no drop rates have been increased.
