Firefighters quickly extinguish fire started by lightning
Firefighters battled a fire started by a lightning strike in Chaffee County on Friday, according to the Chaffee County Fire Protection District. Past tense July 19-22
Salida Weekly Mail, July 19, 1884: All our hurrah has gone for nothing, says the Lake City Register, for there will be no encampment of militia in the city next month. This is no fault of our citizens, who had subscribed liberally to the enterprise. The fault lies with the Denver & Rio Grande Railway Company, whose road bed between Kezar and Grand Junction has been so badly washed out that it cannot be repaired in time to warrant the completion of the enterprise. Certainly the Grand Junction company could not get here. The encampment is therefore indefinitely postponed.
