Concerns about geothermal plant proposal
I would be remiss if I didn't express to our beloved valley community my utter dismay at the proposed geothermal plant that could be located on public land 7 miles outside of Buena Vista. Please understand ... I am not against alternative energy of any kind, but when I think of ALL the other geothermal spots from Glenwood Springs all the way to the New Mexico border where this plant could be located, I am amazed that anyone would even consider drilling in the proposed site. WHY? First of all, the proposed plant's location is surrounded by neighborhoods, where residents' wells could be adversely affected. Most geothermal plants are NOT located near residential areas. Wildlife abounds in this area, and Colorado activity enthusiasts use Rodeo Road (the proposed plant is located right off of this road) all the time ... I see bikers, runners, walkers, jeep/ATV brigades heading to the St. Elmo area, etc. Rodeo Road, right before the plant's entrance, is winding and uphill, which poses a safety issue with increased traffic. Not forgetting to mention that as one travels over Trout Creek Pass, instead of looking at a pristine valley, the plant will be seen for sure with billowing steam clouds. This lovely state property/public lands has also been used for cattle grazing. Our Chaffee County motto is: "Now, THIS is Colorado." Why ruin a pastoral, mountainous landscape when there are other options?

Dave Armstrong for Commissioner
Dave Armstrong has been a strong voice and an active community volunteer and leader in Chaffee County since he and his family moved here 15 years ago. He gets things done. Dave led the successful bond issue drive that funded the new Salida High School building and athletic field twelve years ago. Five years ago, he again took the lead in helping build support for the referendum that brought CMC to Chaffee County, a partnership that has given high school students here the opportunity to gain college credit at no cost to them or to their families.
