CCSD prepares for a new school year

Superintendent Dr. Casey Chambley gave an update on the Chambers County School District during the board meeting on Monday night. In addition to upgrades to many facilities, Chambley discussed plans for re-opening school for the 2024-2025 school year.

“We are excited to get school going, we are about there,” Chambley said during the meeting. “… School’s starting in a couple of weeks and we are excited to see the teachers back and the kids back. Our new teachers will show back up on July the 31st for New Teacher Institute.”

New Teacher Institute will be on August 1, and the first day back for students will be August 7. According to Chambley, the school board still has two open teaching positions and four classified positions.

“So we have really closed the gap here in the last couple of weeks, with our positions ready to open school and ready to go,” he said.

Some of the open positions, Chambley said, are nonessential positions that the school board added this year.

“So we feel really good, and the principals felt really good the other day at the principal’s meeting, about the opening of school and their personnel,” he added. “So we’re ready to go. We’re ready to see the kids back and ready to get started.”

Chambley also touched on some updates and upgrades going on in the school system over the summer.

Starting with safety upgrades, Chambley said the school district is getting new safety fencing put up at some facilities. Michael Sanders, Director of Technology at CCSD, has also begun upgrading the security cameras at many schools. The new upgrade will allow for more footage to be stored.

“There’s a big, big upgrade going on at LaFayette High at their football stadium,” Chambley said.

The LHS football stadium will be getting LED lights upgraded. The project is currently out for bid. During the meeting, Chambley discussed a bid that has come in for the project.

Many facilities are also getting a fresh coat of paint and new floors.

“I appreciate the board and everything that y’all do for the students of Chambers County, for their education, benefiting them. Thank you for supporting all of the initiatives that we’re driving,” Chambley said.

“Everybody’s working real hard all around the district. So thank you for everybody that has contributed to that,” he added.
