In brief: Although the coast has largely been spared heavy rainfall for the last two days, it now appears that the axis of strongest storms will shift there on Wednesday and Thursday. Due to this heightened threat for widespread street flooding, we are elevating coastal counties to a Stage 2 flood alert for now through Thursday evening.
FEMA assistance for Hurricane Beryl
Homeowners and renters several counties are now eligible for FEMA assistance after Hurricane Beryl. Eligible applicants may qualify for serious needs assistance, basic home repairs, personal property losses and other eligible expenses related to storm damage. To date, residents of Brazoria, Chambers, Fort Bend, Galveston, Harris, Jackson, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches, Orange, Polk, San Jacinto, Walker and Wharton counties are designated for FEMA Individual Assistance.

Travel agent indicted in national scam faces more local charges
Theft of property charges against a local travel agent are mounting since the June 18 arrest of Mary Emily Lockard-Furry. Fraudulent travel agent arrested in Chambers County scam
CHAMBERS COUNTY, Texas — A 38-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a nationwide vacation-travel scam, according to the Chambers County Sheriff's Office. Mary Emily Lockard-Furry surrendered to Hardin County authorities on July 10. She is accused of defrauding individuals in the Chambers and Jefferson County areas by posing as a travel agent, taking upfront payments for vacation planning, and then failing to make the necessary travel arrangements.
