CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – Several families are now displaced after an apartment complex caught fire in Champaign just before midnight.

According to the Champaign Fire Department, a passerby reported the fire at the eight-unit building located near Columbia Avenue and 5th Street. First responders arrived on-scene and reported a growing fire inside the building, so they went in to investigate it. They found out it was a fast-moving attic fire, and started deploying multiple hose lines to combat the flames. An aerial ladder was also used to help bring the fire under control.
