    City of Champaign names new Public Works Director

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The City of Champaign officially has a new Public Works Director.

    The city announced on Wednesday that City Manager Dorothy Ann David appointed Terry Lusby Jr. to serve as Public Works Director. He replaces Khalil Zaied, who resigned in February .

    “I am thrilled and privileged to be selected as Champaign’s next Public Works Director,” Lusby said. “It is an honor to serve and work with highly skilled professionals, thoughtful residents, and passionate community partners to maintain the long-standing tradition of exceptional municipal services, and continuously improving the quality of life for this great city.”

    Lusby was selected for the position following a nationwide search, but the city didn’t have to look far to find him. He attended college in Illinois, getting degrees in public administration, school business management and construction management from Northern and Western Illinois Universities.

    Early in his career, Lusby was the Assistant Director of Operations and Maintenance for Homewood-Flossmoor High School and Project Manager for the Carlo Steel Corporation in Chicago. Since then, he’s served as Director of Public Works for the Village of Olympia
    Fields and as Facilities and Fleet Superintendent for the Village of Tinley Park.

    Lusby currently serves as the Interim Public Works Director for the Village of Schiller Park.

    Champaign County plans next hazardous waste collection event

    “Terry’s extensive background and experience in construction management and public works made him the best choice to lead Champaign’s Public Works Department,” David said. “He has developed his leadership skills by steadily advancing through several management roles with increasing levels of responsibility and a passion for public service. Terry has already demonstrated his commitment to becoming an active member of the Champaign community and engaging with our residents. I’m pleased to add Terry to the City’s executive team, and I know he’ll be a great asset to our community and the City organization.”

    Lusby’s first day as Public Works Director in Champaign will be Aug. 12.
