Welcome to "Green Street," your dose of women's college basketball news from Illini beat writer and AP Top 25 voter Joe Vozzelli. He'll offer up insight on Shauna Green's Illini team and the women's game at large every week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The 2024-25 Illinois women's basketball roster is now in place. So let's proceed accordingly with a roster breakdown of Shauna Green's 13-player team.

    Brynn Shoup-Hill

    Height: 6-3

    Year: Senior

    Position: Forward

What she's done: The sophomore version of the Goshen, Ind., native was her best college season to date as Shoup-Hill followed Shauna Green from Dayton to Illinois and was a key part of the Illini team that went to the NCAA tournament in Green's first season. Shoup-Hill started all 28 games she played in that season — missed four due to injury — and averaged 6.1 points and 5.6 rebounds while shooting 47.5 percent from the field, 40 percent from three-point range and 80.0 percent at the free-throw line. But injuries have been part of the story for Shoup-Hill. A wrist injury limited her as a junior with Shoup-Hill seeing her role diminished significantly as a result during this past season. Shoup-Hill again played in 28 games (of the 34 the Illini had in 2023-24), but only started 12 games as Green rearranged her frontcourt rotation with Kendall Bostic at power forward and Camille Hobby as the starting center in the final two-plus months of the season.

What her role will be in 2024-25: A healthy Shoup-Hill has already been noticeable this offseason with summer workouts underway at Ubben Basketball Complex. Green has made it clear the third-year Illinois coach could see a scenario where Shoup-Hill is the Illini's starting center this upcoming season. Shoup-Hill's main competition for that role is likely from Baylor transfer Lety Vasconcelos with the 6-7 center a true post. That Illinois had its best season in two decades with Shoup-Hill as a regular starter in 2022-23 shouldn't be ignored, however. A bounce-back season from Shoup-Hill would be a significant development for the Illini as they look to build off a WBIT title this past April and get back to the NCAA tournament.
