CHAMPAIGN — A busy stretch of Springfield Avenue will close to traffic starting Monday — weather permitting — for repairs to an overpass over Copper Slough.

The Illinois Department of Transportation said Illinois 10 will be shut down just east of Duncan Road in west Champaign. The work is expected to last about five months.

The project first was announced in April. The existing structure will be replaced with a double-barrel box culvert that will accommodate all three traffic lanes and a multi-use path. Springfield Avenue will be closed at the work site, necessitating detours.
