CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Two people were shot early Friday morning in Champaign, according to Champaign Police.

Police were dispatched to a local hospital at 2:58 a.m. after two people arrived with gunshot wounds. One of the victims, a 41-year-old male, had a potentially life-threatening wound to his abdomen. The other victim, a 28-year-old female, suffered a graze.

Police say they interviewed the two victims at the hospital to learn more details about what happened. Both victims are still at the hospital where they remain in stable condition.

Initial investigations by the police indicate the victims were at a gathering in a business parking lot in the 600 block of E. When the situation quickly escalated, the unknown person revealed a firearm and shot both of the victims before fleeing the area. The victims were then taken to a local hospital.

No arrests have been made yet. Police are continuing to canvass the surrounding area in search of witnesses and video that could help with the investigation. Anyone in the nearby area with outdoor surveillance systems is encouraged to notify the Champaign Police.
