CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — As the summer progresses, people on average are paying more at the pump in the city of Champaign.

According to the gas platform GasBuddy, an analysis of 79 stations across the city found the average price for gas in Champaign was $3.59, which is 5.6 cents more compared to last week. There was a range of 45 cents over those stations; the cheapest station in Champaign was priced at $3.34 per gallon yesterday while the most expensive was $3.79 per gallon.

For Illinois, gas prices raised by 6.5 cents per gallon on average to $3.83 per gallon. GasBuddy found the cheapest price for gas in the state yesterday was $3.18 a gallon while the most expensive was $5.19 per gallon.

Illinois gas tax will go up automatically in July

Nationally, the average price of gasoline has risen 2.5 cents per gallon in the last week to averaging $3.49 a gallon today. GasBuddy compiled data from more than 11 million weekly price reports covering over 150,000 gas stations across the country.

“Much like last summer, the nation’s average price of gasoline has remained somewhat stuck in the mid-$3 per gallon range with a mixed bag of prices: small declines in some states and modest increases in others as we wait for what could be the next major trend,” said the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy Patrick De Haan. “Hurricane Beryl had no major impact on prices, but some drivers in Texas had trouble finding gasoline due to power outages, a situation that continues to improve. For now, we’ll continue to see small price fluctuations as we await news of any hurricane-fueled refinery disruptions or other supply challenges as we head into the busiest weeks of the summer travel season.”
