    UPDATE: More details shared in Champaign rollover crash

    Update on July 18 at 1:45 p.m.

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign Police Department is providing more information on a Wednesday rollover accident that happened on Prospect Avenue.

    They said a westbound car was traveling along John Street and paused at a stop sign at the Prospect Avenue intersection. When it proceeded into the intersection, another car hit the passenger side, causing it to roll over. A third vehicle was struck in the turn over, as well, while it was stopped in traffic.

    Applications open for Community Police Academy in Champaign County

    Police arrived at the scene at 5:15 p.m. They said occupants of one vehicle were taken to a nearby hospital “out of an abundance of caution,” though no one was severely hurt.

    A citation was given to the driver of the rollover vehicle for failure to yield to oncoming traffic.


    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — First responders are currently at the scene of a rollover crash in Champaign.

    It happened Wednesday afternoon in the area of West John Street and South Prospect Avenue. A WCIA reporter responded to the scene and said all southbound traffic on Prospect has been closed while officials attend to the accident. Northbound lanes are still open.

    WCIA has reached out to the Champaign Police Department for details about the accident. We have not heard back yet.
