    Champaign School District approves five new administrative appointments

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The Champaign School District announced the approval of five administrative appointments during the school board’s meeting Monday night.

    Jamar Brown fills vacant Champaign City Council seat

    All five appointments are for either assistant principal or dean of students positions. The school district provided the following information about each appointee’s background and prior experience:

    • Caroline Martin – Assistant Principal at Barkstall Elementary School
      • Bachelor’s degree in Special Education from Illinois State University (2019)
      • Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and a principal endorsement from Eastern Illinois University (2021 and 2022)
      • Special education teacher at Mahomet-Seymour Junior High (2019-2020)
      • Life skills and English teacher at Fisher High School (2020-2023)
      • Special education teacher at Garden Hills Academy in Champaign (2023-2024)
    • Albulena “Abby” Emroski – Assistant Principal & Summer School Principal at Booker T. Washington STEM Academy
      • Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, minor in Mathematics from North Central College (2016)
      • Master’s degree in Educational Administration from Illinois State University (2023)
      • 3rd and 5th grade teacher in Decatur Public Schools (2017-2022)
      • Dean of Students at International Prep Academy in Champaign (2022-2023)
      • Assistant Principal at International Prep Academy (2023-2024)
    • Sean Flaherty – Athletic Director/Dean of Students at Edison Middle School
      • Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education, minor in history from Knox College (1996)
      • Special education LBSI endorsement from Eureka College (2008)
      • Social studies teacher at Momence High School (1996-2001), Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley High School (2001-2003), LeRoy High School (2003-2005), Regional Alternative School in Bloomington (2005-2008)
      • Special education teacher at Pontiac High School (2008-2010)
      • Social studies and special education teacher in Decatur Public Schools (2010-2024)
      • Experience in coaching baseball, basketball, football, golf, softball, and volleyball at the middle school, high school and college levels.
    • Tomisha Carter – Assistant Principal at Edison Middle School
      • Bachelor’s degree in Music, minor in Marketing from Eastern Michigan University (2002)
      • Master’s degree in Elementary Education from Cambridge College (2009).
      • Education specialist degree in Educational Administration from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville (2024).
      • 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade teacher in Fort Wayne Community Schools, Indiana (2009-2016)
      • Intermediate grades teacher in Urbana School District 116 (2016-2018)
      • 5th grade and special education teacher in Rantoul City Schools (2018-2019)
      • 8th grade English language arts teacher in Danville School District 118 (2019-2022)
      • Dean of Students at Edison Middle School in Champaign (2022-2024)
    • Lakesha Spight – Dean of Students at Centennial High School
      • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Aurora University (2016)
      • Master of Business Administration from Aurora University (2019)
      • Master of Social Work from Aurora University (2019)
      • Principal endorsement from Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville (2023).
      • Support staff roles in various school districts, including bookkeeper, Food Service Supervisor, secretary and teacher’s aide (2001-2020)
      • School social worker in Sauk Village School District #168 (2020-2021), Harvey School District #152 (2021-2022) and Champaign Unit 4 School District (2022-2024)
    Two administrative appointments to Champaign schools approved

    All five appointees will begin their new jobs before the end of the month.
