    15-year-old arrested in Champaign shooting investigation

    CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — Just days after asking the public for help in a shooting investigation , the Champaign Police Department has announced that a 15-year-old is under arrest.

    Champaign Police officials asked through Crime Stoppers on Monday for tips on two shootings that happened July 20 . One of the shootings happened on Colleen Drive and left two other teenagers hurt.

    Danville Police investigating shooting, looking for tips

    Officials said that four days after the shooting, a 15-year-old was arrested on a charge of unlawful possession of a weapon. While investigating that crime further, officers found evidence relating the teenager to the Colleen Drive shooting.

    On Wednesday, the Champaign County State’s Attorney’s Office amended the teenager’s charges to include aggravated battery with a firearm. A gun was recovered during the investigation.
