CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Before the school year starts up, the Champaign-Urbana Mass Transit District is advising local students and families to plan ahead on their school bus routes.

To partake in the MTD’s free rides to and from school, parents should first check their student’s eligibility by contacting their school. Ride eligibility is determined by home address. If a student is allowed, they will be given a sticker to place on their student ID, which they can then use as a fare-free bus pass.

Students from ineligible households can still ride with MTD, too, through discounted bus tokens. Six tokens can be bought for $3 from the Illinois Terminal, any operator, or on the Token Transit app.

A route map can be located on MTD’s website . Simply select your school from the list and look up your neighborhood. From there, you can get an itinerary and map for the trip to and from school.

For answers to frequently-asked questions or to review MTD’s bussing process, visit their webpage . You can also call 217-384-8188 for help.
