Georgia man dies in Trumbull County crash

CHAMPION Twp., Ohio (WKBN)- The Ohio State Highway Patrol Warren Post is investigating a fatal crash that happened Tuesday night in Champion.

Troopers said that Scott B. Bellknapp, 58, of Decatur, Georgia died in the crash.

OSHP was called shortly before 10:30 p.m. to North Leavitt Road south of Dalton Drive in Champion Township. Reports said that Bellknapp was traveling southbound on North Leavitt Road and ran off the left side of the road, struck several small trees, and overturned before he struck a utility pole.

Troopers said that Bellknapp was transported to the Trumbull Regional Medical Center where he died.

OSHP said that Bellknapp was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Reports said that speed and alcohol appear to have been factors in the crash.

OSHP said that the Champion Fire Department, EMS personnel, and the Champion Police Department assisted at the scene of the crash.

Troopers said that the crash is still under investigation.
