New Calvert government building is a project on the rise
The towering edifice on Main Street in Prince Frederick continues to take shape as construction work rolls on at the site of Calvert County government’s new administration building. Alexandria considering safety-minded street changes near Arlandria Catholic school
Hot on the heels of changes to streets near William Ramsay Elementary School, the City of Alexandria is looking to make streets safer near a local Catholic school. Changes (page 15) to West Glebe Road and Russell Road are headed to the Traffic and Parking Board on Monday, July 22 with the goal of making the intersection near Saint Rita Catholic School safer.
Veteran-owned drive-thru Starbucks coming to Dumfries
The Prince William County Board of County Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved a new drive-thru Starbucks, slated to be built at 17050 Richmond Highway in Dumfries. The business will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is located just south of the intersection of Richmond Highway and Pine Bluff Drive in Princeton Woods. The building will replace a Ruby Tuesday’s set to be demolished in order to make way for the new development.

The City of Alexandria celebrated its 275th birthday – or anniversary of its founding – on July 13 by hosting an event on the waterfront with fireworks, cupcakes and guest speakers. The city was founded in 1749 by Scottish merchants and that heritage is often celebrated throughout the year. City and state leaders alike joined in the festivities by passing out cupcakes to attendees. The night was capped off by a firework show on the Potomac River.
