The Champlin Park LoGators started a busy run last week with a 7-0 win over the St. Michael Saints on June 25 at Noble Sports Park, extending its record to 5-0 in Metro Minny play.

The win was built on a shutout performance from the LoGators, which included seven innings pitched and eight strikeouts for Maple Grove’s Jerome Gooley. Jack Haring pitched the final two innings and earned four kills. While the Saints struggled to get batters to base, the LoGators put on a clinic. The hosts loaded the bases with Tyler Reichenborn, Sam Riola, and Drake Siens, the latter via two hit-by-pitches, in the bottom of the first. Ethan Mocchi then stepped up to the plate and hit a two-RBI single to bring Reichenborn and Riola home. The runs ended there, but the LoGators led 2-0.

An early tag at first by Reid Conlee and two kills for Gooley kept the Saints off the scoresheet, while Reichenborn hit and RBI to bring Rogers-native and NDSU catcher Noah Gordon home and make it 3-0. Both Gordon and Conlee had hit singles in the bottom of the second. Neither team scored in the third and fourth innings, with Gooley adding three strikeouts, while Conlee completed a tag and Siens added a sprinting catch from second base.

Ero Wallin came in at first base midway through the game and had an instant impact, getting two tags at the top of the fifth before clinching a third off a big play from third baseman Tate Wallat with the bases loaded. Champlin Park scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth off an RBI double by Siens to get Jack Puder home and an RBI by Wallat to bring Siens home.

The LoGators’ shutout was protected by Siens in the top of the sixth, with the second baseman completing a double play catch and tag in moments. A kill for Gooley finished things off before the Saints held Champlin Park to no runs in the bottom of the sixth.

The final two runs of the night came in the bottom of the eighth. Reichenborn hit an RBI triple to bring a runner home, before running home himself off of an RBI double from Riola. Jack Haring, who had come in to pitch at the top of the eighth, completed the game in the top of the ninth with three kills to win 7-0.

Reichenborn had a big day at-bat for the LoGators, with two runs and two RBI. Mocchi ended the day with two RBI, while Riola and Gordon had two hits a piece.

The LoGators also played two games last weekend in the Nimrod Tournament, facing the Nimrod Gnats on June 29 and the Roseau Royals on June 30, after this edition went to press.

The LoGators will play two games the following week, traveling to the Anoka Bucs on July 1, before hosting the MacStrength Grizzlies on July 2.
