A Champlin man has been charged in Hennepin County court with one count of threats of violence and one count of fleeing a peace officer with a motor vehicle. This is the result of several altercations, including threatening a person while their children were present.

Damarion Bradley, 22, has been charged with the two felonies after a July 8 incident.

Around 9 p.m. on July 8, Champlin Police were dispatched to the area of 11715 Champlin Drive for a weapons complaint. According to the criminal complaint, dispatched advised officers that a person reported a gray Chrysler with two males inside waving guns out of the window.

“Upon arrival, officers located a silver 2006 Chrysler 300 parking in the apartment complex,” the complaint said. It went on to state that officers observed two males inside the vehicle and when officers tried to make contact with the individuals, the males ignored the officers. The driver fled, who was later identified as Bradley, the complaint alleges.

The complaint said officers attempted to block Bradley’s escape with their vehicle, but he was able to drive between the squad car and a parked vehicle. Officers pursued Bradley’s vehicle which allegedly fled at a high rate of speed and failed to stop for a stop sign at Champlin Drive and 120th Avenue. Officers then lost sight of the vehicle, according to the complaint.

When officers arrived back to the public safety building they were waved down by firefighters who observed someone in the fleeing Chrysler toss a firearm out of the window as it sped by, the complaint said. Officers recovered the firearm with a live round in the chamber. The complaint also noticed the officers observed the gun was loaded with a magazine, but the magazine’s bottom plate and internal components were missing.

“A short time later, the Chrysler was located and the two males were taken into custody,” the complaint reports. The driver was identified as Bradley. The passenger was identified as co-defendant Carl Murray, who has been charged with one count of threats of violence. The complaint said officers located a gun magazine end plate, a spring and five rounds of ammunition from the front passenger side floorboard.

According to the complaint, police interviewed the victim who stated she knew Bradley and Murray and that “she’d been receiving threats from both of them after they accused her and her boyfriend of stealing from [Bradley].”

The victim provided police with screenshots of messages from Bradley and Murray. The complaint shares that Bradley texted the victim that he knew she was “hiding out in Champlin” and threatened to “smoke” her.

According to the complaint, the victim stated on July 8, she returned home from picking up her children when passed by the Chrysler and observed the driver, who was wearing a mask but whom she believed to be Bradley, point a handgun at her.

In a post-Miranda statement, Bradley admitted to fleeing from police and messaging the victim but alleged that the victim also threatened him. He denied possessing or pointing a gun. DNA testing on the recovered firearm was pending, according to the complaint.

If convicted, Bradley could face up to 8 years in prison and/or a $15,000 fine for both charges.

His next court appearance is Aug. 28.
