Chandler High School teacher and coach Vidal Mejia and 23 other Chandler Unified School District staff and faculty were honored at a recent event, as they are retiring at the end of this school year.

The 24 retirees shook hands with CUSD Governing Board members and Superintendent Frank Narducci and received a commemorative clock before the CUSD Governing Board’s regular May meeting.

Mejia was to be inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame – Arizona Chapter in November. He took over as head coach of the CHS wrestling program in 2001 and started coaching wrestling more than 30 years ago.

Among the retirees is Connie Kriel. While she’d only been a math teacher at Chief Hill Learning Academy for seven years but is retiring after 45 total years as a teacher.

Hancock Elementary School student services coordinator Sherry Bullard retired after 37 years with the district.
