Teams from Basha Accelerated Middle School in Chandler recently competed in the U.S. National Academic Pentathlon, which happened to be held in the Valley.

Basha AMS teams won the champion division for all three grade-level teams for sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders, bringing home gold medals and championship trophies.

The pentathlon, held at the Hilton Phoenix Resort is a five-event scholastic competition in literature, mathematics, fine arts, science and social science for middle school students.

Basha AMS students, led by coach Joann Wuthrich, competed against top middle schools from California, Texas, and Alaska.

Basha teams have now won championships at the pentathlon in four consecutive years.
