Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke read a proclamation at a recent City Council study session in honor of July being National Park and Recreation Month.

The proclamation extolled the virtues of recreation and other park activities, pointing out that, among other positive aspects, lifelong friendships are often formed there.

Corey Povar, the city’s community services assistant director, said the month is an opportunity to recognize the many city staff and volunteers that help make recreation programs great, such as maintenance, landscaping, program staff and partner organizations.

On hand for the proclamation were council member Matt Orlando, Chandler recreation Superintendent Becky Kuiper, director of community services John Sefton and recreation coordinator Trevor Groth.
