    UW-Whitewater clinches a spot in Regional Championship with 20-3 win

    WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The UW-Whitewater baseball team advanced to the Regional Championship with a 20-3 win over California Lutheran Saturday.

    The Warhawks got on the board after three pitches in the top of the first (Warhawks were the designated away team in this game). Junior Eli Frank put the Warhawks up 3-0 with a three-run homer after singles from freshman C Aaron Holland and junior OF Matt Scolan.

    Whitewater scored five runs in the second, capped off by a solo shot by Scolan to go up 8-0.

    Warhawks scored two or more runs in the first five innings to go up 16-1.

    On the mound was sophomore P Michael Hilker Jr who gave up one run, five hits, and struck out nine in 6.0 innings pitched.

    The Warhawks added four more in the top of the eight, capped off by a three-run homer from sophomore INF Andy Thies to add on to the lead

    The Warhawks move on to face Centre College from Danville, Kent.

    The Colonels finished 36-12 (15-6 conference) and won against Crown 16-5 and California Lutheran 7-6 to advance to Sunday's game.

    The first game is set for 11 a.m. with a second game possible coming after if Centre wins the first. Whitewater will only need to win one game to be crowned Regional Champions.
