It's Primary Day in Wisconsin: Here's what you need to know

MADISON, Wis. - Polls will be open for Wisconsin residents to cast their primary votes on Tuesday, August 13 from 7 A.M. to 8 P.M.

With this being a primary election, voters will have to request a democratic or republican ballot. The Dane County executive race and the state referendum questions are on both ballots.

You have to be registered to vote and have photo identification to receive a ballot.

In order to cast your vote, you must bring a form of identification that includes a photo. Types of photo ID include a driver's license, school ID, military or state ID.

If you are not registered to vote, you are still able to register at polling places.

To register, proof of identification and residency are required. Proof of residency includes bank or credit card statements, utility bills, or any document from the government that includes the voters name and current resident address.

To find a polling place near you, visit myvote.wi.gov and enter your address. Upon arrival, you can expect poll workers to confirm your identification via provided photo ID. You can also expect to sign the poll list before poll workers make note of your election day voter number and issue a ballot.

If you do not have photo proof of identification, the state will still allow you to cast your vote provisionally. However, if you fail to provide the required identification to the polling place before it closes or to the municipal court by 4 P.M. the Friday after the election, your vote will not be counted.

A current and unexpired Wisconsin driver license or Wisconsin state ID card with the voter’s current name and address also qualifies as Proof of Residence.

Wisconsin counts all ballots on Election Day and unofficial results will be posted. However, it can take up to 45 days to record the data in the voter registration system.
