BELOIT, Wis. -- The School District of Beloit had a big summer providing meals to local children.

The district announced from mid-June through the first week of August, the district's food service program served 22,319 meals, compromising 9,594 breakfasts and 12,725 lunches.

Meals were served at Converse, Todd, and Hackett, as well as Cunningham and various partner community partner locations, including the Beloit Public Library, Merrill Community Center, and Stateline Family YMCA.

More than 22,000 meals included quantities of fresh produce and dairy, including 2,790 gallons of milk, 58 bushels of apples, 138 bushels of pears, and 84 bushels of oranges.

"We recognize the challenge of ensuring all children have access to healthy, nutritious meals when school is not in session. "That is why we are committed and dedicated to this program." said Superintendent Dr. Willie E. Garrison.
