Madison brings home the blue at the 2024 Wisconsin State Fair Grand Champion Eats and Treats competition

MADISON, Wis. -- Members of the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection's "Something Special from Wisconsin" program won big at the 2024 Wisconsin State Fair Grand Champion Eats and Treats competition.

Unlike the famed Sporkies and Drinkies competition, the DATCP said the Eats and Treats competition highlights small to medium-sized companies in the food industry that make under $1 million in sales yearly. The competition provides an outlet for the companies to showcase their quality creations.

The DATCP said judging took place in a variety of categories, including beverages, dips, "dietary finds," fruits, sauces, relishes and rubs, snacks, mixes, sweet treats, and vegetables. Not only did 16 companies throughout Wisconsin win 33 of the 41 awards at the competition, but two from Madison proved their ability to deliver products of the highest quality and desirability.

The DATCP said "Dashelito's Hot Sauces & Spicy Foods" in Madison won big, claiming the overall title "Best of Something Special from Wisconsin." Both its "Sweet Heat Hot Sauce" and "Underflow Chow Chow" received first place in the "Lip Smacking Sauces" and "Relishing Relishes and Radiant Rubs" categories, respectively. The company also took third place for its "Jalapeno Chimichurri" in the "Digging Dietary Finds" category.

Madison's MoJo's MaJik took fourth place in the "Lip Smacking Sauces" category, which the DATCP said was recognized for its "Sweet 'N' Sassy" sauce.
