"Clear the Shelters" kicks off at the Dane County Humane Society

MADISON, Wis. -- The Dane County Humane Society is participating in the nationwide "Clear the Shelters" adoption event now through Sept. 10, and is asking for the public's help to find new homes for every available animal.

During the first three weeks of the event, the DCHS said it will reduce adoption fees for a different animal group each week, ending with the main event on Sept. 7. To kick off the event, adoption prices for all available cats have been reduced by 50% now through Sunday, Aug. 18.

The DCHS said animal shelters continue to struggle with slower adoptions, meaning pets are waiting longer to find their new homes. The "Clear the Shelters" event comes at a great time to promote pet adoption and animal welfare with the goal of finding new families for all of the animals in care.

Adoptions at DCHS are first come, first served. Most animals are adopted quickly, so those interested in a particular animal should not wait to adopt. DCHS will announce weekly promotion details on the shelter’s website, giveshelter.org , and its social media pages (@GiveShelter on Facebook and @dchsgiveshelter on Instagram).
