Wisconsin State Patrol plans aerial enforcement on Beltline

MADISON, Wis. -- The Wisconsin State Patrol announced Thursday it will monitor the Madison Beltline Highway in Dane County from the sky on Friday, Aug. 16, as part of its aerial enforcement initiative.

The State Patrol said its primary mission is public safety, which includes enforcing traffic laws to help make sure drivers reach their destinations safely. When a pilot observes a violation from the air, they communicate with ground-based units to initiate a traffic stop, enhancing efforts to stop speeding and reckless driving.

The State Patrol reminds drivers the speed limit is 55 miles per hour on the Beltline. Stopping on the Flex Lane, even if it is closed, is prohibited. Drivers should pull over to the right side if stopped by law enforcement.

If there is no safe place to immediately pull over, the State Patrol said drivers should move to the right lane, turn on emergency flashers and reduce speed to signal to law enforcement that they are aware of their presence until they reach the nearest safe area to stop their vehicle.
