MONONA, Wis. -- A 26-year-old Madison man was taken to a hospital and faces charges after Monona police said he crashed into a light pole Thursday morning.

Officers and paramedics were called to the 6300 block of Monona Drive at around 11:38 a.m. for a report of a single-car crash. Members of the Monona Fire Department extracted the man from the vehicle and he was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to Monona Police Chief Brian Chaney, an investigation found that man stopped in a lane before accelerating into a light pole. The man faces charges of OWI-involving suspected drug impairment.
