MADISON, Wis. -- Madison police are investigating a homicide near E. Washington Ave. at the 1600 block of Schmedeman Ave.

The suspect has been identified and is in police custody, according to Madison Police Department. Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said a 42-year-old male came to the police department at 8:42 a.m. to report he injured someone overnight and they were likely deceased.

In an update, Madison police identified the man as Terrence Davis. He was booked in the Dane County Jail and faces charges of first-degree intentional homicide and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Madison police went to the address on Schmedeman Ave. and forced entry for a welfare check. The police found a deceased female inside the house.

"We are investigating this case as the third homicide in our city (of the year)," Barnes said.

Barnes said the two had a domestic relationship and the suspect injured the woman after an argument. He said the suspect is fully cooperating with the investigation and is currently being interviewed.
