Huntington's Disease event to fight for a cure

FITCHBURG, Wis. -- The Wisconsin Chapter of the Huntington's Disease Society of America announced Saturday residents will walk, run, and bike for a cure in the community "Team Hope Run/Walk/Ride" on Sunday.

The HDSA Wisconsin Chapter said the walk will help raise awareness for Huntington's Disease, a devastating degenerative brain disorder. Individuals with HD slowly lose their ability to walk, talk, think, and reason, eventually becoming totally dependent on others for care. Medication can relieve some symptoms in certain individuals, but research has yet to find a way to cure or slow the progression of HD.

The HDSA Wisconsin Chapter said funds raised from the event will stay within Wisconsin to help run support groups, educational events, and research for a cure. The walk/run/bike will be held on Aug. 18th at McKee Farms Park. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the run/walk/bike kick-off begins at 10 a.m.

The HDSA Wisconsin Chapter is asking for support from the community to become a sponsor, form a team, walk as an individual, donate products or volunteer to coordinate the event activities.
