Mom's on a Mission in need of volunteers ahead of school year

MADISON, Wis. -- Since 2021, "Mom's on a Mission" has served students during their open lunch break at East High School in Madison. They giveaway free snacks and lend a listening ear to teens.

"Our students have experienced a lot of gun violence recently. You know, we had a student who was murdered last year," said one of the founders, Shadayra Kilfoy-Flores.

Founders tell me they started the organization in 2021 after violence became a trend at East High. All three of them have students who attended the school at some point.

"It's about 100 students fighting. And unfortunately, when fights start off of school grounds, there isn't much that teachers and staff can do. And so the police worked hard. And not only were at least 100 students pepper sprayed who were maybe fighting teachers, staff, other students standing around, parents who had came down to see what was going on were all pepper sprayed," said Kaziah Anderson.
