REEDSBURG, Wis. -- The School District of Reedsburg on Tuesday confirmed that the alleged actions of nine teens against the Amish community are connected to the cancelation of two football games.

The Sauk County Sheriff's Office announced Monday that nine teens were cited for disorderly conduct following reports of harassing behavior towards the Amish community. Sauk County Sheriff Chip Meister confirmed that some of the teens cited are members of the Reedsburg High School football team.

Nine Reedsburg juveniles cited for Amish harassment

REEDSBURG, Wis. — Nine juveniles from the Reedsburg area were cited for disorderly conduct after reports of harassing behavior towards the Amish community, according to a release from the Sauk County Sheriff's Department.

In an update Tuesday, the sheriff's office said that the teens were blowing air horns outside homes, shining lights into homes, ringing doorbells and knocking on windows. The incidents primarily occurred in the western half of Sauk County in early August, between the hours of 9 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

" The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office is aware of numerous other reported behaviors that were rumored to have been taking place," officials said. " Deputies have investigated these reports, and at this time they were found to be unsubstantiated."

In the wake of the alleged incidents, two of the team's games were called off including this Friday's matchup against DeForest. In a statement Tuesday, the district said it would not release information about specific students, misconduct or discipline, citing state and federal confidentiality laws.

"It is an understatement to say we were disappointed to learn about the allegations against students enrolled in the District and participating in our athletic program," administrators said. "The behavior alleged is inconsistent with our values in the District, and it is not a reflection of our school community as a whole."

Reedsburg Area High School cancels first two football games amid investigation

REEDSBURG, Wis. -- The Reedsburg Area High School football team will not take the field on Friday. Administrators announced Thursday that the game against River Valley is canceled along with next week's game against DeForest.

Because the alleged incidents occurred away from district property and not while the students were participating in district activities, administrators said they are limited in how they can discipline students.

"Generally speaking, for such conduct, the District has the legal right to impose discipline within the athletic program, but not through suspension or expulsion from school," administrators said.

As it stands, the Beavers football team will return to the field on Sept. 6 against La Crosse Central.

I drive for the Amish and am always asking questions about them. They are always friendly and forth coming with the answers. So apparently there are only about according to their private census. Around 45000 Amish totally in the United States. So to me they're the true minority in the US.
