Car windows smashed, man dragged from vehicle in downtown Madison

MADISON, Wis. -- A man was beaten and dragged from a vehicle where he was sleeping in downtown Madison Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers were called to the 600 block of East Washington Ave. at around 4:30 a.m. for what was initially reported as a man being beaten to death. The caller reported that she and a man were sleeping in a car when three men approached, smashed the back window and dragged the man out of the car.

As officers began searching for the man, he returned to the scene. Police said he declined to give any information to officers other than to ask for an ambulance.

An investigation is ongoing and officers are reviewing video evidence from the scene.
