‘I’m still going to have my party,’ State Street business owner says after her store was vandalized

MADISON, Wis.-- Owner of Metric Forrest Studio is holding the grand opening of her jewelry business on Friday despite the store being vandalized earlier in the week.

On Monday around 3:40 am a 38-year-old man vandalized at least six businesses and was arrested after officers found him with a brick in his hand.

“It was very shocking, and at first I didn't have much of a response,” said owner of Metric Forrest Studio, Forrest Voedisch.

Metric Forrest just surpassed three months of business, but this week Voedisch woke up to find out one the store's windows was completely shattered.

“Of course, I quickly came down here to see what was going on,” Voedisch said. “Once I came down here, I learned that other businesses were attacked around Madison.”

The brick went through the first panel of the store's window, but did not break through the second. Voedisch says that she will still have to completely replace the glass in the near future.

Voedisch makes all of her jewelry by hand and says that she's always had a passion for creating things.

“I just love making things. I've been making things since I was, you know, as long as I can remember,” said Voedisch. “Then I love the idea of being in the heart of Madison.”

It's taken over a decade to bring her business to this physical location so she can showcase and sell her art.

“I decided it was time for one of my other dreams, which was to open a space,” said Voedisch.

To celebrate this dream-come-true, she plans to hold an official grand opening, and she won't let the window incident throw a brick in this plan.

“I'm still going to have my party. I need to celebrate being here, and I need to be, you know, proud of what I've created, and not let something get in the way of being thankful,” said Voedisch.

The grand opening is open to the public Friday 4-7pm at the Metric Forrest Studio.
