New street art to hit Atwood

MADISON, Wis. -- Crews are installing new pieces of artwork along the shared-use path on Atwood Avenue this week with colorful courtesy reminders for bikers and pedestrians.

Officials said the artwork was designed by a local artist and is part of the city's "Percent for Art" ordinance, which requires 1% of any city funding in capital projects of $5 million or more be dedicated to adding public art elements. In addition to the path art, Atwood's project will also include new utility box wraps in the area.

Because Atwood experiences frequent pedestrian traffic, city officials expect the artwork to be a hit among walkers and bikers. Past artwork through the project included pieces of poetry that were pressed into the concrete of the new sidewalks along Atwood.
