Brewers to learn Wild Card series opponent after Mets/Braves doubleheader Monday

MILWAUKEE -- The MLB postseason bracket is almost set. The American League teams know their opponents, but the Brewers will have to wait one more day to learn who they'll take on in the National League Wild Card series.

Milwaukee clinched the NL Central division title earlier this month, however they finished as the National League's No. 3 seed behind the Dodgers and Phillies. That means that, instead of earning an automatic trip to the NL Division Series, they'll have to fight the No. 6 seed in a best-of-three Wild Card Series.

However, despite most teams' regular seasons ending on Sunday, that No. 6 seed remains undecided. The Atlanta Braves and New York Mets are tied for the last two Wild Card seeds with records of 88-72. They'll play a tie-breaking doubleheader on Monday in Atlanta starting at 12:10 p.m. CT.

Should the Braves and Mets split the doubleheader, then both squads would clinch postseason berths and the Brewers would play the Mets in the Wild Card Series beginning on Tuesday.

However, should either team win both games, that team would become the No. 5 seed and the Arizona Diamondbacks would move up to the No. 6 seed.

The Diamondbacks are hoping to return to the postseason after reaching the World Series last year. The Mets are trying to get back into the postseason after missing last year.

Regardless of who they play, the Brewers will be back in action on Tuesday at American Family Field. The start time for that game has not been announced.
