Man sentenced to 18 years in prison following a 2023 shooting at Badger Tavern

MADISON, Wis. -- A man was sentenced to 18 years in prison, followed by 15 years of extended supervision in connection to a 2023 shooting at Badger Tavern.

Caleb DiMaggio, 25, was charged with 2nd degree intentional homicide after a deadly shooting in 2023 that killed 44-year-old Jason Pritchard.

Witnesses who said they saw DiMaggio shoot Pritchard told police during their investigation that the 23-year-old was "amped up earlier in the night and had been holding his gun "nonchalantly before firing at the victim.

According to a criminal complaint, DiMaggio told police Pritchard would not fight him, but the complaint did not say what may have led DiMaggio to want to fight.

Results from the breathalyzer test taken by DiMaggio shortly after 1:10 a.m. roughly an hour after police got to the scene--showed DiMaggio had a BAC of .221.
