DANE COUNTY, Wis. -- If you didn't believe Wisconsin was a battleground state, driving down Main Street in Oregon might change your mind.

You can't miss Kevin Schoen's front yard. His political beliefs are planted proudly for all to see.

"It's a good thing to stand up no matter what you are," Schoen said, surrounded by his conservative yard signs.

On Queen's Way Road in Monona, Meghann Morley displays an extravagant collection as well.

"I just want to support the Harris-Walz team and the middle class, women, people of color, people of disabilities..." she said.

Driving through a sea of red and blue might stir up feeling of contention, but an anonymous sign distributor said that doesn't have to be the case.

"When I see signs, it reminds me that people are engaged. They are paying attention," they said. "The most dangerous thing to be is apathetic."

The community members are on a mission come November.

"I read an article that said having signs up can make a 1-2% difference in the outcome of an election," said Morley.

But they say there's a bigger job to get done.

"This man is going to go away in four years," said Schoen. "Whether he wins or loses he's going to go away. But I'm still going to be here."

Whether it's across party lines or property lines, Schoen says it's all in good fun.

"[My neighbor] is a wonderful woman. I love her. Anytime I have extra tomatoes from the garden, I take her some."
