MADISON, Wis. -- The National Park Service announced Tuesday $25.7 million in "Save America's Treasures" grants, which will fund the preservation of nationally significant sites and historical collections in Wisconsin and 25 other states.

The NPS said the Save America's Treasures program will provide grants from the Historic Preservation Fund, which provides preservation and conservation work on national ly significant collections, artifacts, structures, and sites. The HPF uses revenue from federal offshore oil and gas leases, without expending tax dollars, to mitigate the loss of nonrenewable resources through the preservation of other irreplaceable resources.

Preservation projects in Wisconsin the NPS said are receiving a Save America's Treasures grant include Baggage Horse Barn at Ringling Brothers Circus Winter Headquarters in Baraboo, the National Soldiers Home Governor's Mansion and Chapel in Milwaukee, and the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wauwatosa.
