Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) Commissioner Representing Employers Joe Esparza presented multiple ceremonial checks at Paris Junior College On Thursday, June 20th.

TWC awarded six Jobs and Education for Texans (JET) grants to support career training at six educational institutions in Northeast Texas. Commissioner Joe Esparza spoke at the event discussing how important these programs are for employers seeking a skilled workforce.

Chapel Hill Independent School District received a $210,259 grant to train 119 students as welders, cutters, solderers, and brazers in partnership with Northeast Texas Community College. CTE Director Josh Stegall spoke on these essential programs in public schools and how this funding will help many students be able to enter the workforce out of high school.

Through funding provided by the Legislature each biennium, TWC uses JET grants to defray start-up costs of developing career and technical education programs for public community, state and technical colleges, school districts and charter schools. Equipment funded through JET grants must be used to train students for jobs in high-demand occupations.
