Banghart, UNC Women’s Basketball Land Committment from 5-Star Prospect Taliyah Henderson
Courtney Banghart scored a big win on the recruiting trail on Friday, as five-star wing Taliyah Henderson committed to the UNC women’s basketball program. Both ESPN and 247 Sports rate Henderson as a five-star prospect, with ESPN grading her a 96 overall and the No. 21 player in the recruiting class of 2025. A six-foot wing from Salpointe Catholic High School in Tucson, AZ, Henderson chose Carolina over offers from several other schools, including UConn, Tennessee and USC. She is currently the only recruit in the Class of 2025 committed to UNC (Lanie Grant originally was part of the class but reclassified into the Class of 2024).

Man dead, woman shot overnight on Avondale Drive in Durham, police say
DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A man is dead and another person was shot on Avondale Drive in Durham early Sunday morning, police said. According to the Durham Police Department, an officer working off duty at a business on the 2200 block of Avondale Drive heard gunshots at around 4:19 a.m. The officer then responded to the parking lot of a nearby business and found a man and woman who had been shot, police said.

Durham police officer helps save child from drowning
DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) – A Durham police officer is being recognized after helping save a child’s life earlier this summer. Officer M. Bruinton says he was on his way to another call on July 5 when he was sent to a drowning call. When he arrived, the 2-year-old child had already been pulled from the water, but was unresponsive and had no pulse. That’s when he jumped into action and performed life-saving first aid to the child.
