Charles City County, Va. (Newsradiowrva.com) - A sheriff’s deputy in Charles City has died after suffering a medical emergency on duty Sunday.

At around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 9, Sergeant Floyd Miles was monitoring traffic on John Tyler Memorial Highway at Wayside Drive when a moped driver approached his cruiser and claimed people were trying to kill him.

The moped fell onto the vehicle as the subject approached it, and the deputy noticed blood on the subject. Miles called paramedics. After the suspect was placed into an ambulance, he became combative and attacked the deputy. It was during the struggle that Miles suffered the medical emergency.

State Police are continuing to investigate.
