Choate Construction Co. partnered with St. Johns Fire District and Construction Dynamics Inc. to bring a fully-equipped fire equipment maintenance facility to the St. Johns’ district.

Following a recent ribbon-cutting ceremony, this single-story, pre-engineered building will further bolster the SJFD’s emergency services as it continues to protect and serve the community, according to a news release.

“It’s an honor to work alongside the SJFD and Construction Dynamics to support our first responders and their life-saving efforts through this facility,” says Tim Heichelbech, vice president and division manager for Choate’s Charleston office, in the release. “The dedication and teamwork on this project were instrumental to the successful delivery of this space.”

At 10,000 square feet, the building contains three drive-through bays with 14-feet-by-14-feet overhead doors, positioned to maximize the property’s traffic and airflow, the release stated. One of the bays features an overhead support beam that can support five tons via chain hoist trolley, with systems to accommodate oil changes on the SJFD’s emergency vehicles.

Additionally, the facility provides office and personnel space containing a locker room, showers, restrooms, a kitchen and dining area, IT room, training areas and storage, the release stated.

The project team worked closely with Charleston County, the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control, and the South Carolina Department of Transportation to ensure success in meeting zoning ordinances and codes needed for this facility, the release stated.
